Leaked Price of iPhone 12 May Turn iPhone SE Into a Tougher Sell

Newly leaked price information regarding iPhone 12 suggests that it may be a better deal than the iPhone SE priced at $399. After the rumors of iPhone 12’s super-fast charger, 5G capabilities, and other exciting upgrades that we discussed here, the pricing information for the iPhone 12 has also been leaked.

Speculation suggests that the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will be priced at $649 while its 6.1-inch counterpart will cost a bit more at $699.

This puts the iPhone 12 in the same price range as its predecessor—the 6.1-inch iPhone 11. What makes this news surprising is the fact that iPhone 12 is equipped with 5G, which packs an added punch. The price difference is apparent when you compare it to Samsung’s 5G phone Samsung Galaxy S20 which is priced at a whopping $999.

If that wasn’t enough, this week’s rumors suggest that Apple has an even cheaper 4G version of iPhone 12 in the works that would be sold at the price of only $549. That’s a whole $150 less than last year’s predecessor iPhone 11.

The news of this affordable version may influence buyers’ decisions when it comes to the $399 iPhone SE. With iPhone 12 costing only $150 more than iPhone SE, this entry-level phone is bound to be a tougher sell, especially since iPhone 12 has many advantages over it.

Rumors reveal the iPhone 12 will offer a much larger display of 5.4 inches as compared to the 4.7-inch display featured in iPhone SE. As discussed previously, the iPhone 12 will also come with a faster A14 Bionic chipset and two rear cameras (iPhone SE has only one). Moreover, the iPhone 12 is also said to have Face ID capabilities and a smaller build even though it has a larger display. In short, for iPhone enthusiasts with some money to spare, the iPhone 12 might seem like a more viable option due to its faster processor, better endurance, and a host of other features.

However, $150 may not be a small amount for everyone, and for people considering to purchase the iPhone SE, the entry-level phone is not without its merits. iPhone SE features a fast A13 Bionic processor, and the single rear camera produces high-quality images.

Conclusion

The iPhone SE is modeled like iPhone 8 with features closer to iPhone 11 and is equipped with a 4.7-inch display, an efficient A13 Bionic processor, a single rear camera, and Touch ID, among other features. All these features place iPhone SE as a reliable, affordable option to go for.

However, this all may change upon the release of the iPhone 12. While it does have its redeeming qualities, rumors suggest that iPhone SE may not be able to compete with the semi-affordable but faster, sleeker and newer iPhone 12. The fate of iPhone SE and how it holds up against the new challenge will be revealed when Apple launches the iPhone 12 later this year in September.
