AMD publicly stated:
“Building upon the legacy established by the 3rd-gen AMD Ryzen processor family, the 3000XT Series processors elevate the world-class ‘Zen 2’ architecture with an optimized 7nm manufacturing process technology to offer higher boost frequency and increased performance at the same [thermal design power] of their Ryzen 3000 counterparts,” AMD said in a statement.”
While before this event, XT’s use was only for AMD’s graphics cards, whereas this has drastically changed, and all for the better. If compared to the non-XT alternative, the 3900 XT Ryzen 9 boasts an additional 4% expansion in single-thread performance. Moreover, AMD is saying as well that there’s a 40% increase in power efficiency.
Nevertheless, the design of the Ryzen 9 3900XT is identical to the X variant having 12 cores and 24 threads. The base clock speed is also the same at 3.4GHz, but the 3900XT processor can lift itself to 4.8GHz with the added boost, being 0.1GHz faster than the X edition of the processor.
[table id=1 /]Moreover, the Ryzen 3800 XT will arrive with eight cores along with 16 threads. It’s set to have a boost speed of 4.7GHz, whereas the 3600XT edition is built with six cores and 12 threads that accommodate a 4.5GHz boost.
To talk about the base frequency, the XT processors are no different in terms of that than their predecessors. However, for the 3900XT, and 3600XT, there is indeed, a 100MHz of added frequency. On the other hand, the base frequency is boosted by 200MHz for the 3800XT.
All things said and done, bearing in mind the Precision Boost 2 algorithms of AMD, the performance of the Ryzen 3000 series depends considerably on the motherboard’s potential and capacity, along with cooling. With the 3900XT as well as with the 3800XT, a stock cooler isn’t included, whereas the 3600XT does come with a pre-installed and bundled, Wraith Cooler. Nonetheless, it’s recommended to use an equivalent of the 280mm AIO water cooler to ensure the maximum performance of the processors.
For now, it’s safe to say that the launch of these new processors isn’t precisely a discounted update to the existing ones. It’s only sensible to expect that AMD will officially reduce the prices of the current Ryzen 3000 series processors, given the fact that they can already be purchased at a price far below AMD’s recommendation.
The launch of the new XT processors indeed is startling in many aspects, given the fact that the company was previously rumored to go forth with introducing Ryzen 4000 CPU’s to the world. Instead, it’s revealed that the prospect was postponed because the demand of the 3000 series proved to be more influential.
