Back in March, Microsoft announced that the developers would have business continuity as their top priority in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, non-security update releases would have to be halted for some time.
Fortunately, these non-security updates (or “C” and “D” releases) are coming back in the following month, all thanks to the feedback received and successful business continuity by Microsoft. Because of this move, Windows users will once again be able to have a look at the non-security fixes that will be a part of the next month’s cumulative security update (or “B” release).
Apart from this, another great news is that Microsoft has been working on further simplifying the update process so that users can have the latest versions of Windows 10 and Windows Server.
Microsoft also plans on naming these optional releases as “Preview” releases, which gives a better idea of what these updates are all about. When you go to Settings and open the Windows update page, you will get to see this naming change in action.
Plus, to get these updates, your system should have at least version 1809 of Windows 10 or Windows Server. It is also worth noting that users will now be able to effectively manage updates for each supported version of Windows in their environment. This has been made possible by removing the Preview releases for Windows 10 and Windows Server from the Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) channel.
Conclusion
Although these optional “Preview” updates aren’t all that essential, some users were still looking forward to them making their return. The good news is that Microsoft will start delivering them once again starting from July, and you can learn more about these updates from our official news source.
